Samoa Joe is stepping away from AEW for a few months to film a Hollywood project, telling Katsuyori Shibata, Hook and Anthony Bowens in a segment on Tuesday’s Dynamite that Hollywood had come calling and leaving Hook in charge of The Opps during his absence.
Joe’s departure is expected to be for Twisted Metal Season 3 on Peacock, where he plays the role of Sweet Tooth. The show has been renewed for a third season expected to premiere in 2027. Joe has stepped away from AEW previously to film Seasons 1 and 2.
Joe has wrestled five times in 2026, most recently losing to Will Ospreay in the Owen Hart men’s tournament quarterfinal at Double or Nothing. He had only recently returned from a concussion that kept him off television from late January through April.
